Member Spotlight: First Whitewater Run Since Deployment

We don't do a lot of "spotlight" posts, but this one earned it.

He hadn't been in a kayak since before his last deployment — said the timing never lined up, then the gear never got replaced, then a few years just happened. A few of our members talked him into a day trip on a stretch of whitewater that's forgiving enough for a rusty paddler but still has real current to respect.

By the second rapid he wasn't thinking about any of that. Just reading the water, bracing when he needed to, getting worked by one wave and laughing about it after.

That's most of what this is about, honestly. Not the gear, not the mileage — just getting people back outside doing something that used to matter to them, with people who won't make it weird if it takes a minute to remember how.

If you've got a "haven't done this in years" itch, that's usually reason enough to show up to one of these.
